Statement by Patrick Lynch on Governor Carcieri's budget
Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Patrick Lynch released the following statement in response to Governor Carcieri submitting his 2010 budget.
“I look forward to looking at the Governor’s budget in its entirety, it is clear that it is more of the same. Now is the time for the Governor to show leadership by scrapping the flat tax and other tax cuts for the wealthy that have done nothing but cost the state millions of dollars without creating the jobs as promised.
While I support the tax credits targeting small businesses who hire new employees, I would go a step further and offer the credit to businesses that currently have between one and four employees as well. These are often the businesses that are struggling most and need a little help to create additional jobs.
There is no doubt that tough decisions need to be made and everyone needs to sacrifice in order to balance the budget. Unfortunately, the governor is unwilling to include the wealthiest Rhode Islanders among those who will sacrifice while he offers cuts for everyone else.”
