Creating Jobs
Patrick’s top priority will be to create jobs for Rhode Islanders. He believes the best way to create new jobs immediately is to strengthen the businesses already located in Rhode Island by reducing their tax burden.
Patrick will work to reform the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) in order to provide new and existing businesses the necessary support to help them succeed. He will insist that any reform of the EDC include stationing officials in all 39 cities and towns where they will be able to work with local governments, businesses and organizations such as Chambers of Commerce on a daily basis in order to effectively help businesses prosper and create jobs.
Knowing that taking advantage of our existing strengths in terms of location and natural resources will be essential to recovery and job creation in Rhode Island, Patrick will also develop a clear long-term plan relating to development of Quonset.
As Governor, Patrick will also develop a long term strategy to attract the businesses of the future including high tech, bio tech and green tech firms through aggressive recruiting and offering competitive incentives to ensure that Rhode Island leads New England in long-term economic growth.
Additionally, Patrick knows that a highly educated work force is a key factor in retaining and attracting businesses. That is why he will fight to ensure that Rhode Island properly invests in K-12 education, higher education and workforce development training.
